TRIBAL
ENERGY CONTEXT
Inequity on energy issues is a key driver of expanded efforts by Native American Tribes toward sovereignty, energy self reliance, & self determination.
Tribal lands occupy 4% of US land and supply 11% of US energy.
Native lands provide energy benefits to millions of Americans, but Native
people have been hurt by America's energy policy:
- 10 times more likely to be without electricity (14% of native
households vs 1.4% US average)
- Uranium mining, waste, air pollution, hydro displacement legacies
- Public health problems
Foresight is committed to working in partnership with Native American Tribes to
maximize their economic benefit and maintain a balance with the
use of the land, water, and natural resources.
